Rep. Dusty Johnson defends SNAP work requirements in committee

South Dakota Representative Dusty Johnson spoke during a House Committee on Agriculture meeting regarding legislation seeking to implement work requirements for SNAP recipients. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program provides food benefits to low-income families, elderly people, disabled people and others.

Republicans are seeking to implement work requirements for able bodied individuals who receive SNAP benefits. Opponents argue these requirements would take food away from needy Americans and able body workers on the program are already working.

Representative Johnson says Democrats are spreading misinformation about what the work requirements would do and what their goals are. Johnson said seniors will not be effected…

Some have argued food is a basic human right as we all need it to survive. Representative Johnson argues that is not the case and has been established in a bipartisan manner in the past…
