SD basketball legend Gary Evjen passes away at 76

South Dakota basketball hall of fame member Gary Evjen has passed away at the age of 76. According to his family, Evjen passed away Wednesday Jun 17^th. Evjen is one of the state’s most decorated basketball players, who’s career included high school at Sioux Falls Washington, then onto Northern State. He became the first South Dakota collegiate player to record more than 2,000 pionts and 1,000 rebounds during his career. He was a two time all american at northern, scoring 2,288 points. He later became a coach and an administrator, including being the head coach at Sisseton where he led the boys basketball team to a state runner-up in 1988. He is also enshrined in the Nrothern State Athletics Hall of Fame and five other hall of fame inductions.
