SD GOP gubernatorial candidate Jon Hansen calling for state’s gas tax to be suspended amid rising prices

South Dakota GOP gubernatorial candidate Jon Hansen is calling on the state’s gas tax to be suspended this summer due to rising gas prices across the nation. Hansen spoke about his plan, calling to use an economic development fund to cover the lost revenue. President Donald Trump has floated the idea of a federal gas tax holiday due to rising prices from the ongoing war with Iran. South Dakota’s average gas price, $4.22, which includes taxes, is more than a dollar higher than it was a year ago, according to the AAA motor club. A pause on the state tax would lower the state’s current average price to $3.94 per gallon.
