SD state lawmaker Richard Vasgaard killed in farming accident

South Dakota state representative Richard Vasgaard died Wednesday in a farming accident on his rural Centerville farm. He was 75 years old. His passing was announced by South Dakota Speaker of the House Jon Hansen in a statement. Vasgaard served as one of the Representatives from District 17. He left the legislature briefly, but returned in 2025 in the newly redistricted District 16. Little further details were released about the accident.
