The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe has declared a state of emergency on the reservation due to on the ongoing federal government shutdown. According to tribal authorities, due to the shutdown programs such as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program and the Women, Infants and Children Program or WIC are at risk of being delayed or unavailable. The tribe currently has 2,319 recipients of the SNAP program, 203 monthly participants in WIC and 902 participants in the Low Income Home Energy Assistance program.
