South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley has announced the state of South Dakota has received the first $9 million from a $52 million settlement as part of its share involving a lawsuit with Meta. The money was part of a settlement claiming Meta’s platform is harmful to young users. The settlement will be paid out over the next 10 years and could grow as large as $73 million upon certain conditions. In a statement about the money, AG Jackley says the legislature now has the opportunity to put these funds to work in a way that can best serve South Dakota. He urged lawmakers to put it towards improving and strengthening education in South Dakota.
