Three inmates have passed away this week while serving time in the South Dakota State penitentiary in Sioux Falls. According to the Department of Corrections, 57-year-old Keith McLain died Monday in the Jameson Annex from an apparent suicide after being found unresponsive in his cell. On Tuesday 25-year-old Kaleb Lukkes was found unresponsive in his cell. Finally 64-year-old Frank Twigg died Wednesday in a comfort care setting at the Jameson Annex. 19 people have died inside the prison in fiscal year 2025 and so far six have died in fiscal year 2026, July through September.
