Waubay mayor Barry Hillestad passes away in office

Waubay mayor Barry Hillestad has passed away at the age of 67. According to his obituary he passed away peacefully at his home in Waubay on Friday May 23^rd. This is the second time in less than a year Waubay has lost a mayor while in office. Hillestad was in office just 18 days before his death. He ran unopposed for the position this past spring after longtime serving mayor Kevin Jens passed away in November. Hillestad also served as the Day County Sheriff , first elected in 2006. After serving three terms as Day County Sheriff, he served two terms as Roberts county sheriff.
