11th confirmed case of measles announced in 2026




The South Dakota Department of Public Health has announced the 11th confirmed case of measles in South Dakota in 2026. The case involves a child younger than 18 in Edmunds County. According to the DOH the patient was unvaccinated against the disease or their vaccine status was unknown. The source of the exposure was also unknown. The Department has notified healthcare providers in Brown, Campbell, Edmunds, Faulk, McPherson, Potter, Spink and Walworth counties to be alert for potential symptoms presenting in patients in the coming weeks. The DOH tells SouthDakotasearchlight.com it did not issue a press release regarding the case because the3 patient is not known to have visited public locations while infectious.
