A former state trooper has announced plans to run for South Dakota’s Secretary of State position as a Democrat. 39-year-old Terrance Davis has announced his candidacy and if he were to get the nomination will likely go up against incumbent Republican Monae Johnson. Johnson was elected in 2022 and has announced her intentions to seek a second term. Davis is a Sioux Falls resident and Tennessee native. He currently works for East River Legal Services in Sioux Falls and is pursing his doctoral degree in law and public policy through Liberty University. The Secretary of State’s job is to oversee the state’s elections, maintain voter registration records and catalog, and manage campaign finance reports.
