South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden has announced his call for a special session of the legislature to consider the need for a new men’s state prison. The legislature will convene for this special session Tuesday September 23rd beginning at 9:00 p.m. In a statement about the session, Governor Rhoden said the purpose of this session is to consider and pass legislation to authorize the Department of Corrections to do everything necessary to move forward with the project. Governor Rhoden went onto say the state’s prison reset task force voted unanimously to recommend this type of action to try and find a solutions to the state’s prison question.
