(South Dakota Broadcasters Association) House leaders today said they stepped in after a seating dispute delayed the House Education Committee last week.
Republican Rep. Josephine Garcia from Watertown objected to a last-minute seating change before the committee met, then apologized after leadership intervened.
Her remarks were captured in an audience recording made before the committee reconvened.
House Majority Leader Scott Odenbach from Spearfish addressed the incident at today’s leadership news conference.
“The way you definitely don’t do it is try to disrupt the proceedings of the House of Representatives. That’s been made crystal clear. There’s been changes made to the commitees, as was said.”
Odenbach says leadership addressed the issue early in the session to avoid repeat disruptions.
