Piedmont man as identified as fatal victim in four-vehicle accident near Deadwood

A Piedmont man died Friday evening in a four-vehicle crash one mile east of Deadwood, SD.

Preliminary crash information indicates that Robert Allen Erickson, the driver of a 2019 Chevrolet Suburban, was traveling east on US Highway 14A and crossed the centerline, sideswiping an oncoming 2010 Ford Flex driven by Joanna Silvia Barlow, causing the Ford to spin and come to rest on the centerline. The Suburban then struck an oncoming Ford F-150 head-on, driven by Justin Weaver, which went off the road and into the ditch. The Suburban then struck a GMC Sierra, driven by Cody Lynn Oliver. The Suburban came to rest in the westbound passing lane.

Erickson was pronounced deceased at the scene. Justin Weaver and passenger Lindsey Weaver in the F-150 were transported to Monument Health in Rapid City with life-threatening injuries. Joanna Barlow and a two-year-old passenger in the Ford Flex, and Cody Oliver in the GMC Sierra, were not injured.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is preliminary.

The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
