The South Dakota Board of Economic Development voted Tuesday to approve $6.1 million in tax rebates for the state’s largest wind energy project. According to South Dakota Searchlight, the wind farm will span about 110 square miles of private land north of philip and 85 miles east of Rapid City. It is estimated to cost $760 million and generate 333 megawatts. South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden’s office says the project is already under construction and it is expected to begin generating electricity in 2028.
