SDHSAA votes to sanction baseball

The South Dakota High School Activities Association voted unanimously with one abstention to begin the process of sanctioning baseball. The process of sanctioning new sports would take at least a year and if approved by the board it would be another year before the first season starts. Currently the SDHSAA does not offer high school baseball, with some schools offering high school baseball through the South Dakota High School Baseball Association. South Dakota is one of just two states in the nation that does not have Activities Association sanctioned baseball. Legion baseball supporters are skeptical of the move as they fear it could tank interest in the South Dakota summer baseball tradition. Most recently, the SDHSAA sanctioned softball and high school softball just had its first season begin in late March.
