Sioux Falls kidnapping suspect enters Alford plea

The suspect in a kidnapping incident out of Sioux Falls last February has entered an Alford plea. Betty Cross appeared in court Thursday and entered her plea regarding 2nd degree kidnapping charges. She faces up to five years in prison. An Alford plea is when the defendant maintains their innocence but acknowledges the state likely has enough evidence to convict them. Cross allegedly kidnapped a baby that was in her care for months. Investigators say she had been told the child would be placed with another family the day before he went missing. The child and cross were ultimately tracked down to Detroit Michigan where she was taken into custody. The child was unharmed.
