South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley announced Monday the state is set to receive $10.1 million from Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family. The money comes from a $7.4 billion settlement between Purdue, the Sacklers and 55 Attorneys General across the nation. Purdue Pharma and the Sacklers faced a class action lawsuit regarding the nation’s current opioid crisis. While the Sacklers have maintained innocence throughout the litigation process, the two entities are largely blamed for flooding the market with opioids, leading to the addiction crisis millions of Americans face today. In total, South Dakota has received $54 million from companies involved in the opioid epidemic.
