APD responds to a mental health call Thursday morning

The Aberdeen Police Department responded to a welfare check Thursday morning leading to a short hold up.

According to the APD officers responded around 6:00 a.m. in the 1300 block of South Lawson Street to conduct a welfare check after concerns were raised about an individuals safety.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a person they believe was experiencing a mental health crisis, threatening self-harm. Officers established a safe perimeter and communicated safely with the individual from the outside.

Police say officers de-escalated the situation and the person left the residents peacefully before EMS personnel came in for an evaluation.
