A Rapid City, South Dakota man died in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday near Hermosa, South Dakota.
Names of the those involved have not been released pending notification of family members.
Preliminary crash information indicates the driver of a 2019 Toyota Camry was traveling westbound on South Dakota Highway 40 near Hermosa, when he entered the eastbound lane. At the same time, the driver of a 2021 Ford Explorer approached the Camry from the eastbound lanes and tried to avoid a collision. The vehicles struck each other.
The driver of the Camry sustained fatal injuries. The driver of the Explorer was taken to a Rapid City hospital via Life Flight. Her passengers sustained minor injuries. SD Highway 40 was closed for approximately one hour following the crash.
The investigation is ongoing. All information released is preliminary.
