The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission approved a wind energy project in northeast South Dakota Friday. The permit is for the Chicago-based Invenergy, working through its subsidiary Deuel Harvest Wind Energy South. The project calls for 68 wind turbines spread across 46 square miles of privately owned land near Brandt South Dakota in Deuel County. The estimated cost of the project is $621 million. This will be the second wind turbine farm Invenergy will build in Deuel county as the company completed a 109 turbine wind farm in 2021 and sold to Atlanta-based Southern Power.
