District 3 State Representative Carl Perry filed a bill Monday looking to change South Dakota’s minimum wage laws. HB 1181 would adjust the state’s minimum wage every other year rather than how it currently stands at every year. The state’s minimum wage is tied to the rising cost of living determined by the consumer price index. It has been this way in South Dakota since voters passed Initiated Measure 18 by 55 percent of the vote in 2014. The bill will be heard first in the House Commerce and Energy Committee, but no hearing has been scheduled yet.
