Drought expert predicts extended dryness for entire Corn Belt, Delta this summer

An author for the National Drought Monitor says extended dryness will likely intensify throughout most of the Midwest and areas of the Delta this summer.

Brian Fuchs (FEW-cks) tells Brownfield, “We realistically are going to see more drought developing all the way from the Eastern Corn Belt to the Western Corn Belt. Some of those areas that had some of the better springs are going to carry on better than some of those areas that really didn’t get that relief in the spring.”

He says the severity of drought for areas of the Eastern Corn Belt will depend on moisture that’s been received in June or July.
