Former USD basketball player to serve six months in county jail on rape charges

A former University of South Dakota basketball player and Romanian National has been sentenced in a rape case he pleaded guilty to in 2023. 21-year-old Mihai Carcoana was sentenced to six months in the Clay County jail and a 20 year suspended prison sentence after pleading guilty to second degree rape. The arrest involved a female victim in December of 2022. After completing his six month prison sentence Carcoana is expected to be deported back to his native Romania.
