Longtime South Dakota high school boys basketball head coach Larry Luitjens passed away Saturday at the age of 81. A Britton South Dakota native and Northern State alum, Luitjens was the state’s winningest boys basketball coach in the state’s history. His coaching career spanned 1967 through 2014 mostly with Custer High School. Luitjens won 748 games and seven state titles in his career.
