Mount Vernon man pleads not guilty by reason of insanity in death of 3-year-old

A Mount Vernon man has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to several charges in connection with the death of a 3-year old in March.  35-year old Shawn Delancey entered the pleas in Davison County Court on Tuesday.  He is charged with second-degree murder, two counts of manslaughter, and abuse or cruelty to a minor.  Delancey faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole.  The child was allegedly shaken violently by Delancey, who was babysitting the child at his Mount Vernon residence. He told authorities that he was attempting to calm the child after the child acted out several times. The child later died from his injuries.  Delancey remains jailed on a $500,000 bond.
