Rep. Johnson explains his no vote on the “Respect for Marriage Act”

(WNAX – Yankton, SD) The Respect for Marriage Act overturns the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act, which prohibited the federal government from recognizing marriages that were not between a man and a woman. It also requires states to recognize any valid marriage performed in other states, regardless of sex.

Johnson says the bill takes authority away from states…

The bill has criticized by conservatives, with many charging that, among other things, the legislation fails to adequately protect groups and people morally opposed to same-sex marriage.
