Saints defensive end Sam Motzkus named NSAA defensive player of the week

Senior Sam Motzkus from Littleton, CO was named the NAIA and the North Star Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against Mayville State University on Saturday October 29, 2022.

Sam’s performance included 17 total tackles with six of those being solo. He accounted for four sacks during the game and four and a half tackles for loss. At one point during the end of the third quarter and the start of the fourth he was responsible for the hat trick of sacks. He ended the third quarter with a sack and took part of two more to start the fourth quarter. Sam and his teammates combined to hold Mayville State to just 103 yards of total offense and a shut out on Senior Day.

Head Coach Steve Heimann said, “We couldn’t be more proud of Sam for earning NAIA defensive player of the week honors.  He has worked very hard over the past four years to become the best player he can be and it is a pleasure to see his diligent hard work pay off.  Anyone who knows Sam would know him to be a man of high character. He is a great teammate and tireless advocate for the improvement of those around him.  He is a senior captain and leader on our team in every sense of the word.  I couldn’t think of a more deserving player to win an honor like this.”
