South Dakota Game Fish and Parks is seeking the public’s help in investigating the shooting of a golden eagle near Gettysburg. According to GFP, officers were called about an injured golden eagle in Potter County, northeast of Gettysburg. The eagle was located, recovered and transported for evaluation. X-rays concluded the eagle had been shot with a shotgun, with multiple pellets still lodged in its wing. Experts say the eagle will not make a full recovery and will likely live the rest of its life in captivity. Golden eagles are protected under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and Lacey Act. If you have any information regarding the case, you are encouraged to contact South Dakota’s tip line at 1888-overbag or submit a report online.
