The South Dakota Highway Patrol has promoted lieutenant Joel Peterson to assistant superintendent in charge of field operations. Peterson is a 20 year veteran of the South Dakota Highway Patrol and was promoted to major during a pinning ceremony held Monday. Peterson has served several roles with the highway patrol including as a SWAT operator and firearms instructor.
