SD Senate kills bill to create $15 million in scholarships to go towards education costs for foster children

The South Dakota state senate killed one of Governor Krsiti Noem’s staple education initiatives in committee Tuesday. The Senate Education Committee voted 4-2 on Tuesday to kill SB100 which would have created a $15 million fund at the state department of education families of foster children could apply for to go towards education costs.

Diana Miller, a registered lobbyist with the Large School Group argued against the bill…

Under this proposal foster children could receive up to $4,000. State senator Steve Kolbeck of District 2 motioned to send the bill to the 41st legislative day, saying proponents focused only on the private school aspect of this legislation…
