Aberdeen Development Corp. President Tim Hanigan is one of two new candidates vying for the Republican nomination for one of District 3’s two seats in the South Dakota House of Representatives.
Hanigan says he is running to try and keep Aberdeen competitive so his children and others have opportunities to stay here and enter the workforce one day…
The Republican Primary is a large field featuring Hanigan, fellow first time candidate Spencer Sommers, incumbent Al Novstrop and former state lawmaker Kaleb Weis.
Because of this large field, factions have begun to form. According to Northern State political science professor Jon Schaff in the Aberdeen Insider, Hanigan and Sommers are considered more business friendly, economically focused, while Weis and Novstrop are closer aligned with President Donald Trump’s “MAGA” policies.
Hanigan says he doesn’t have a problem being labeled in that way, but says economic development must be done right…
