The South Dakota Board of Regents announced Thursday the first tuition increase the board has approved in five years. According to the board, there will be a 2.9 percent tuition increase effective the summer term of 2025 to the spring of 2026. The tuition increase will affect South Dakota’s public universities including Northern State, Black Hills, State, South Dakota State, The University of South Dakota and Dakota State University. South Dakota School of Mines will see a five percent increase to keep up with peer universities. The board of regents says the tuition increase is necessary to address rising operational costs and inflationary pressures.
