The Brown County Commission at its regular meeting Tuesday passed a resolution opposing mandatory electronic identification livestock tags. The resolution is in response to the United States Department of Agriculture’s new rules mandating electronic id tags for interstate movement of sexually intact cattle and bison that are 19 months or older. The goal of this mandate is to create a modern system that tracks animals from birth to slaughter. The resolution passed by the commission holds no legal weight, but shows the commissions feelings towards the new policy.
