College football to expand playoffs to 12 teams by 2024

The College Football Playoffs announced Thursday come 2024 the field will expand from a four team format up to 12. The announcement completes an 18 month process that was full of delays and disagreements as college football looked to change the format of the Bowl system it has used for much of the 20^th century. The announcement came after the Rose Bowl agreed to amend its contract for the 2024-25 seasons, which was the last hurdle the College Football Playoffs needed to get over. The playoff expansion is estimated to produce approximately $450 million in additional gross revenue for the conferences and schools that participate.
