A group of Republican lawmakers have filed a petition to call a special session of the legislature to address eminent domain reforms. Representatives John Hanson of Dell Rapids, Karal Lems of Canton,Scott Moore of Ipswich, Brandei Schaefbauer and Carl Perry both of Aberdeen and Scott Odenbach submitted the petition to legislative leaders Monday. In order for a special session to be called, two-third of both the House and Senate would need to sign the petition. South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem has said she will not call a special session and says lawmakers don’t have an agreement as to what changes should be made to the state’s eminent domain laws.
