A Judge in Iowa has blocked a new abortion pan after about six weeks of pregnancy just days after Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed it into law. The law would ban almost all abortions in Iowa. For now abortions in Iowa remains legal up to 20 weeks of pregnancy while the court assess the new law’s constitutionality. As it is written, the law would have very limited access to abortion once a heart beat is detected including in cases of incest if reported within 45 days, if the fetus has a fetal abnormality incompatible with life if reported within 145 days or in cases of safety for the mother.
