Icy roads lead to two rollovers in Hamlin county

(KXLG – Watertown, SD) The Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office reported two rollover crashes today and one injury.

As the day progressed, the high winds blew snow over the road creating dangerous and icy driving conditions for much of the KXLG listening area.

Around 12:40 pm, near County Road 465 and 183rd Street, about six miles northeast of Castlewood, the vehicle was traveling South on County Road 465, lost control on the ice, hit the ditch, and rolled.

EMTs from another ambulance service came across the crash and were the first people on the scene to help the driver. Once Castlewood Ambulance arrived, the driver was taken to a hospital for injuries from the crash.

Later around 5:00 pm, a pickup was westbound on SD Highway 28 near 446th Avenue, approximately 4 miles East of Lake Norden, when it also lost control on the icy roads, hit the ditch, and rolled the pickup.

No injuries were reported, and the Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incidents.
