The lone Democrat on the ballot in district three has withdrawn her candidacy. 25-year-old Emily Meier withdrew her petition to run August 2nd according to the South Dakota Secretary of State records. That is the last day candidates can withdraw from the November ballot. Meier tells the Aberdeen American News health issues including surgery and other likely procedures in the future influenced this decision. This means Carl Perry and Brandei Schaefbauer have a clear path to victory while state senator Al Novstrop also has no opponent come November.
