New Golden Eagles football coach readies for first season

Aberdeen Central will soon begin two-a-day practices and prepare for the 2022 high school football season. This year the Golden Eagles will enter the season with a new head coach in Justin Breise.

Breise takes over for Scott Svendsen who resigned from the Golden Eagles football team following the 2021 season. The Golden Eagles managed to make it to the second round of the Class 11AAplayoffs, but ultimately lost to eventual state champions Pierre.

A Pierre native who played college football at Northern State, Breise has a long coaching history spanning both college and high school football. He has served as an assistant at Northern State, Aberdeen Roncalli and Aberdeen Central. He while at Roncalli in 2012, Breise was named the 2012 Assistant Coach of the Year by the South Dakota Football Coaches Association.

Breise says he’s never had head coaching aspirations, but is excited about this opportunity…

Breise hopes to keep things simple for his team this upcoming season…

Breise says head coaching will be a learning experience for him as he is more defensive minded, but taking care of the offense is a high priority…

The Golden Eagles will kick off the season August 26th @ Pierre.
