South Dakota Open Primaries has announced it has filed 47,000 signatures to the Secretary of State’s office, meaning it has the necessary number to get Open Primaries on the South Dakota ballot come November.
Open primaries is the idea the state does away with Democrat and Republican primaries and every candidate runs in the same primary with every registered voter getting to vote in said primary. Dee Knutson with South Dakota Open primaries explained…
The state requires 35,017 signatures to get on the ballot. The Secretary of State will now attempt to validate the signatures to ensure it has the support from registered voters to get on the ballot.
