The South Dakota Department of Health says more than 6,000 cases of the flu were confirmed in South Dakota this past flu season. 39 of those cases were fatal. There have been a total of 16,275 cases of the flu in South Dakota as of March 20th 2024. Minnehaha county has the most cases at 4,197 but also is the most populated. Deaths were considerably up this year due to the flu as the state say 24 deaths combined between 2020-22. The Department of Health encourages residents to get a flu shot before the start of every flu season.
