Wakpala man sentenced in embezzlement charges against Standing Rock Sioux Tribe

A Wakpala man has been sentenced to six months in prison on embezzlement charges. According to a release from the US Attorney for South Dakota 39-year-old Joshua Iron Cloud Sr. was indicted in September of 2021 and pleaded guilty in April of 2022 of embezzling, stealing and converting $25,000 in money belonging to the Oyate Community Development Corporation of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe to be used on personal items and expenditures. Upon finishing his six month sentence Iron Cloud Sr. will also serve three years supervised release and has been ordered to pay $23,980 in restitution to the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.
